2025 M&A Trends in the Language Industry — What to Expect in 2026
As 2025 comes to a close, the language industry finds itself at a pivotal moment. Market forces, buyer behavior, AI’s impact and evolving client demands have reshaped the landscape in ways that matter for every LSP owner — whether you’re considering selling, positioning for future growth, or exploring expansion through acquisition.
At Language Transactions, we’ve supported dozens of founders through this year’s activity, closing eight acquisitions in 2025, with a ninth expected to close before the end of December. Although we cannot predict the future, we can comment on certain trends we are seeing.
Across our network of 100+ vetted buyers, one clear trend emerged in 2025: operational resilience and technology integration have become more important. EBITDA health, client concentration, and recurring revenue models weighed more heavily than raw growth rates.
This has been especially true for private equity-backed groups, who continue to pursue disciplined buy-and-build strategies — but with sharper focus on profitability, leadership continuity, and long-term sustainability.
Demand for ASL and broader accessibility services continued to outpace other verticals in 2025. Several of our closed deals involved ASL providers, and buyer appetite remains strong heading into 2026. The combination of compliance-driven demand and a shortage of scalable providers supports healthy multiples and increased outreach from strategic buyers.
European deal flow remained strong, driven by fragmentation in key markets such as Germany, France, and Central Europe. Buyers continue to seek regionally established companies with loyal clients and stable EBITDA. As European founders reassess their long-term strategies, we anticipate a rise in high-quality opportunities entering the market in 2026.
Despite the headlines, 2025 made it clear: AI is transforming workflows, not eliminating the need for human expertise. Buyers rewarded LSPs that embraced AI responsibly — optimizing processes, reducing cost, and improving throughput without compromising quality.
In 2026, we expect even more interest in LSPs that have implemented hybrid human-AI workflows, integrated platforms, especially those serving regulated sectors or large enterprise clients.
Market multiples have gone down slightly in 2025. This is due in part to the uncertain impact of AI and the changes in the economy. Many high-quality LSPs though are trading in well-established ranges based on EBITDA, client diversity, and vertical expertise. Companies with clean financials, clear sales processes, and minimal owner dependency captured the strongest offers.
Founders who took the time to prepare — updating financials, systematizing operations, and documenting processes — were rewarded with higher valuations and smoother due diligence.
What to Expect in 2026
Looking ahead, we anticipate:
2026 is shaping up to be a strong year for both buyers and sellers — especially those who start preparing early.
